If Janet Jackson did indeed flash her breast on national television on purpose to get a lot of exposure — not that kind of exposure- it sure worked. If she hoped that exposure — yes that exposure — would translate into massive sales of her “Damita Jo” album, she failed.

With the publicity machine in overdrive last week and two months of non-stop headlines since the Super Bowl incident, Jackson only managed to sell 381,000 copies in its opening week. Compare that to her last album which sold over 600,000 copies in its first week in 2001, and something in her plans went wrong. She did not even debut in first place. That spot belongs to Usher, who tops the chart for a second straight week, with 486,000 copies sold of his “Confessions” album. Last week, he sold 1.1 million copies.

Jackson has already released two singles, both which are struggling to receive radio play. She will host and perform on Saturday Night Live this week.
