Review: Sight Flex
Apple Computer?s ?iSight? is one of the best performing web-cams on the market. When you purchase an iSight it comes with three different stands, and you use one depending on your computer. These stands are a big inconvenience if you plan to move your iSight around (or from one computer to another) because they are semi-permanent (they use an adhesive to stick to your computer and though it is possible to remove it, it is not recommended that you do so).
I ended up using the eMac stand and putting it to the side of my computer, totally disregarding the whole purpose to the iSight stands in the first place: having a face level, centered view of yourself.
The SightFlex is a perfect solution for any of your iSight problems. This elegantly crafted iSight stand is more than aesthetically pleasing to the eye and matches the iSight?s design, even better than the Apple provided stands.
The stand plugs into your FireWire port on your computer. The FireWire then connects to the base of the stand, which acts as a counter weight for the iSight. Then a long, flexible, metallic neck comes out of the base with a semi-transparent male FireWire port to connect to your iSight. The great thing about this metallic neck is it?s flexible enough to stand up nicely behind your PowerBook or iBook, yet long enough so that it sits nicely next to your desktop, or behind your Apple Cinema display.
Pros
- Aesthetically pleasing
- Well priced
- Very convenient
- Design consistent with the iSight and new G5?s
Cons
- When rotated the metallic stand can come loose from the base
Final Thoughts ? 5/5
The way I was using my iSight with the Apple stands made it an inconvenience to use and killed the whole purpose of the stands themselves (having an eye level view of your face). With the SightFlex, my iSight is now a pleasure to use and I can finally use it properly.
