Shaq Dominates NBA All-Star Game
The home town hero, Shaquille O’Neal, was named NBA All-Star MVP Sunday night, scoring 24 points to lead the West to a 136-132 victory over the East.
Jamaal Magloire, a player known more for his toughness and size than offensive dominance, lead the East with 19 points.
The night also belonged to some of music’s biggest names. Outkast performed while the players were introduced before the game. Christina Aguilera performed the U.S. national anthem accompanied by a drummer, while Nelly Furtado performed the Canadian anthem.
Beyonce Knowles soared down from the ceiling on a disco ball to begin her halftime performance, as Jay-Z watched courtside.
There was a moment in the fourth quarter when O’Neal dunked the ball, and couldn’t stop, falling right into Ruben Studdard’s lap. The American Idol winner was probably the only person in the building who could have withheld a fall from the 300 pound-plus Shaq.
“I just want everyone to know I’m suing Ruben Studdard. He had his hand on my ass and he wouldn’t let go,” O’Neal joked after the game.
Also in attendance: Ashton Kutcher, Will Smith, Lennox Lewis, Jack Nicholson, P. Diddy, Naomi Campbell, Penny Marshall, Robert Downey Jr., Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Pesci, and Snoop Dogg, Paris Hilton, Nick Carter, Heather Locklear, Richie Sambora, Lil’ Kim, Chris Noth, Kelly Clarkson and Janet Jackson. A red carpet was set up outside the Staples Center.
