Beyonce Knowles lead all nominees with five wins at the Grammy Awards Sunday night. But it was Outkast who took home the night’s biggest award for Best Album.

Knowles won best female R&B performance and best contemporary R&B album for “Dangerously in Love,” best R&B performance by a duo or group with Luther Vandross (”The Closer I Get To You”), and best R&B song and best rap/sung collaboration for “Crazy in Love.”

She also started the show performing a duet with Prince. They performed a medley of his hits “Purple Rain” and “Let’s Go Crazy.”

Outkast took three awards, including Best Album for “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below,” best urban/alternative performance, and best rap album. Andre 3000 accepted the award for best rap album on behalf of Outkast, and merely said, “thank you,” and walked off the stage.

Justin Timberlake took the opportunity to apologize for last week’s Super Bowl halftime show as he won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

“I know it’s been a rough week on everybody,” he said, as laughs ensued. “What occurred was unintentional, completely regrettable and I apologise if you guys were offended.”

He then said, “This is officially the greatest moment of my life.” Timberlake also won for best pop vocal album.

Some other Grammy notes:
-50 Cent, who was favoured to win Best New Artist, went on stage even though Evanescence won. He walked by the band and then smiled into the camera. Ben Moody, former member of Evanescence, went on stage with the band to accept the award.
-Ozzy Osbourne made a surprise appearance with his wife Sharon. He was almost killed in an accident.
- Sting, Dave Matthews, Pharrell Williams, and Vince Gil performed in a tribute to the Beatles.
-The Grammy Awards were plagued with technical errors, mostly relating to sound. Celine Dion’s microphone did not work at the beginning of her tribute to Luther Vandross. Sean Paul could barely be heard in his duet with Sting. Several other performances had sound level issues.
-In the pre-show on E!, Joan Rivers told Sharon Osbourne that she “heard” her show was doing fantastic. “Actually I got fired.” Her show was cancelled and will end in May.
