Virgin Music confirmed that they plan to embark on their own online music service in early 2004. Virgin plans to sell tracks at the 99cents per song range and compete directly with Apple.

Meanwhile, Apple and Microsoft have both announced plans to enter the Australian market in early 2004 with their respective music products.

Canadians are still waiting for Apple to expand the service to the USA’s closest neighbour.

Other reports are indicating that Hewlett Packard wants to take a bite out of online music sales by launching their own version alongside a compatible music player. Sources are suggesting that it will be launched between Jan 8-11th at the Consumer Electronic trade show.

One thing is for sure, consumers will have a lot to choose from…maybe too much ;)
