Destiny’s Child Sued for $200 Million
A producer has filed a $200 million lawsuit against Destiny’s Child, alleging the trio of stealing his music for their hit song, “Survivor.”
Terrence “T-Robb” Robinson, 32, says he produced a song called “Glorious” in 2000 and gave it to Matthew Knowles, the group’s manager, who was also named in the suit.
“I know right now I would be one of the biggest, most sought-after producers,” Robinson said at a news conference Tuesday.
“Survivor” earned Destiny’s Child a Grammy in 2003 for best R&B performance. It was also the title-song of their 2001 album, which sold millions of copies.
Peter J. Clarke, Robinson’s attorney, said the song was not copyrighted when Robinson gave Knowles the song, but a copyright was later secured, according to the Associated Press.
Sony Music Entertainment, Columbia Records, Music World Entertainment and State of Mind Muzic, Inc. were also named in the suit.
Last year, two former members of Destiny’s Child sued them for comments made in the “Survivor” song. The case was later settled.
