On Tuesday night at about 10:00 PM (ET), the first, and surely not last, “Canadian Idol,” will be chosen in front of a sold-out audience at a theatre in Toronto.

Like the American Idol finale earlier this year, the two finalists are male: Gary Beals, 20, from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; and Ryan Malcolm, 23, from Kingston, Ontario.

One of the songs that each competitor will perform in the finale is a new song called “Something More.” This song will be the winner’s first single, which will be released September 30.

“The first time I heard that song, it brought tears to my eyes,” Beals said in a conference call with the press, earlier this week.

Malcolm said the song grew on him. “When I went into record it last week, the more I heard it, the more I loved it.”

Besides a record deal, the Canadian Idol winner will compete as part of “World Idol,” which is tentatively being planned for December. If all goes as planned, winners from each country that held an Idol contest will compete. American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, who will be performing on the Canadian Idol finale, will not be competing, as only season one winners would be eligible.

“I’m hopefully going to go for Galaxy Idol in 2080,” Malcolm joked, adding that he would love to compete in World Idol.

Malcolm also has other plans, whether or not he wins. He revealed that he and Billy Klippert, who made it to the final 3, might record an album together. Malcolm also said that he would choose Klippert as the ultimate winner.

Canadian Idol airs Monday and Tuesday at 8 PM (check local listings to be sure). andPOP will be on hand to bring you complete coverage.
