Legendary country singer Johnny Cash died early Friday morning due to complications from diabetes.

The American music icon had such hits as “I Walk the Line” and “A Boy Named Sue.” He won 11 Grammy Awards and was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992

“I hope that friends and fans of Johnny will pray for the Cash family to find comfort during this very difficult time,” Cash’s manager, Lou Robin, said in a statement.

Cash had been released from hospital Wednesday after a two-week stay treating a stomach ailment. He missed the MTV Video Music Awards, where he was nominated for seven awards, last month because of the illness.
