New Logo for Toronto Blue Jays
A fierce new Toronto Blue Jays logo was unveiled Tuesday night at a VIP reception held downtown on a rare baseball off night. The new logo includes the word “Jays” – with the “Blue conspicuously missing – along with the head of a jay sticking out the “J.”
Gone is the colour red and the Canadian maple leaf. The team’s fourth logo will be featured on blue, metallic silver and metallic graphite uniforms.
“The Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Club has set out in a new direction in more recent years with a strong belief in a plan that’s already generating positive results on and off the field”, Jays President and CEO Paul Godfrey said. “We felt an exciting new look for the organization was a logical step in that plan as we continue to attract a new wave of fans”.
The official change from the old logo will be in effect January 1, and the club will begin wearing the new uniforms next season.
A star-studded audience watched as Denny Dent painted the logo on a canvas, amazingly with three brushes in each hand. Those who attended included: Jays players Carlos Delgado, Josh Phelps, Vernon Wells, Eric Hinske, and Orlando Hudson; WWE Diva Trish Stratus; musicians Ed Robertson of Barenaked Ladies, Jeremy Taggart of Our Lady Peace, Ronnie Hawkins, In Essence, and Red 1 of Rascalz; Maple Leafs Doug Gilmour, Tie Domi, and Gary Roberts; Toronto Argonaut Damon Allen; and former Blue Jays Manager Cito Gaston.
