Roxio Announces Napster 2.0; Legal Digital Music Downloading Service
It seems every week we hear about another company gearing up to release a digital music download service.
This time, Roxio’s CEO, Chris Gorog, announced that they will release a digital music downloading system based on Napster. Dubbed Napster 2.0, Roxio plans to launch both an a la carte download service (similar to iTMS and BuyMusic.com) and a monthly subscription service (similar to Pressplay).
“Napster 2.0 is being built from the ground up to reflect the essence of independence and innovation that the brand is known for,” said Gorog. “Consumers want flexibility, and for the first time they will not have to choose between downloads or subscriptions. Napster 2.0 will allow music fans to do both, putting the power where it belongs — in the hands of consumers.”
Roxio plans to debut Napster around Christmas time, with close to 500 000 songs.
