There’s something great about Macy Gray’s third album, “The Trouble With Being Myself,” but then there’s something terrible.

The songs are superb and fun to listen to, qualities songs on her last album lacked. The problem? Her voice is worse than it has ever been. When she released “I Try” a few years ago, people loved the song and found her voice interesting. But to hear her scratchy vocals for nearly 50 minutes is hard to do.

Perhaps she realizes this and her voice is that “trouble with being” herself.
