After weeks of speculation, The Rolling Stones have confirmed that they will play a show in Toronto to help the city bounce back after they were hit hard by SARS.

“We’re happy to tell you that we’re coming to play on July 30 in a great concert for the people in the city of Toronto, to help bring back the energy to our favourite city,” Stones singer Mick Jagger said via video, at a news conference this morning.

The concert, which will be held at Downsview Park, will also feature Justin Timberlake, AC/DC, The Guess Who, Sam Roberts, The Flaming Lips, Kathleen Edwards, The Isley Bros., and Sass Jordan, with more expected to be announced. Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi will host.

Although originally it was reported that the concert would be free, tickets are priced at $21.50 Canadian or $16 U.S., and go on sale Friday.

Over 1 million people could fit at the park, and government officials said they hope 150,000 people from outside of Toronto will attend.
