MuchMusic Video Awards Artist Spotlight: Swollen Members
All this week, andPOP will be featuring a different artist who is nominated for a MuchMusic Video Award. The awards will be handed out Sunday at 9PM ET.
Today’s artist: Swollen Members
Vancouver’s Swollen Members,
consisting of Mad Child, Prevail, Moka Only, and Rob the Viking, released “Mosters in the Closet” this year. The album featured mostly remixes of previous tracks, but also some new joints.
One of the new songs was “Breath,” featuring their friend Nelly Furtado, which garnered them some MMVA nominations.
Perhaps their biggest feat this year was signing a U.S. record deal with Virgin Records.
Nominations
Swollen Members are up for four MMVAs: People’s Choice: Favourite Canadian Group, Best Video, Best Rap Video, and Best Independent Video.
What are their chances?
Having Nelly Furtado perform in their video is definitely a plus. Further more, the directing services of Todd McFarlane (Spawn) didn’t hurt either. The video has a lot of elements to it, and could take the Rap category, but probably not much else.
