Every day this week, andPOP will be featuring a different artist who is nominated for a MuchMusic Video Award. The awards will be handed out Sunday at 9PM ET.

Today’s artist: Shawn Desman

Almost a year ago, Shawn Desman entered the Canadian music scene and immediately had a big impact. His first single, “Get Ready,” was almost an instant chart topper, and became one of the most popular summer songs.

He went on to release two more singles (”Shook” and “Spread My Wings”) and there’s no sign of him slowing down. In just one year, Desman has seen his album go Gold in Canada, has performed at the NBA All Star Weekend in February where he met Michael Jordan, and is getting ready to release his debut album internationally.

Nominations
Desman is up for four MMVAs: People’s Choice: Favourite Canadian Artist, Best Video, Best Pop Video, and Best Director.

What are his chances?
Desman is up against some stiff competition and could walk away empty handed. In the People’s Choice: Favourite Canadian Artist category, Avril Lavigne is the favourite, but Sam Roberts or Desman could get an unlikely upset if their diehard fans rally around them. He has a better chance for Best Video, where’s he’s up against the memorable “Innocent” video by Our Lady Peace, but there is no obvious frontrunner. He’s also got a good shot at Best Pop Video, up against In Essence, Remy Shand, Roberts, and Chantal Kreviazuk. It’s going to be tough, but don’t be surprised if Desman walks away with at least one trophy.
