They are no Avril Lavigne, they are no Britney Spears, they are just Lillix, a 4-piece girl band from British Columbia. Their debut under the name Lillix, “Falling Uphill,” proves why they are worthy of all the positive attention they are getting.

Like most other new bands, Lillix are being compared to everyone and anyone, especially Lavigne. The similarities are obvious: The Matrix produced songs on both albums, both of their music videos were shot by the same director, they are both from Canada, and they both perform “pop-rock” music. The biggest difference is that Lillix actually write their own music and play instruments.

They are dubbed as a “pop-rock” band, but neither of the two genres dominates. Some songs are more pop than others, just as several are more rock, but the album is well balanced.

Their cover of “What I Like About You” is the only unoriginal song on the album, but they offer a decent rendition, which is why it was chosen as the theme to a television series.

Soon, the phrase, “they sound like Lillix,” will be popping up in reviews for other bands.
