The main thing missing in Third Eye Blind’s third album is the veins. It seems to be missing the layers, which seems appropriate since the album is called “Out of the Vein,” but I doubt the band named it that because of the lack of variance in their music.
They use the same formula for every song: rock hard until the chorus and then try to make it catchy. Whether the chorus are actually catchy or not really doesn’t matter, since most people will be flipping through the CD trying to find something different on this album, which cannot be done.
The band has evolved since their debut album, currently sounding much more punk than grunge, but judging by the sappy lyrics, that’s not the way they were trying to go.
