CD Review: Lara St. John – Re: Bach
Lara St. John releases “Re: Bach” on Tuesday, and I’m not going to pretend to know anything about classical music in this review, except I’m not sure how classical this album is.
Here is what I can tell you: there is percussion and electric guitars on the album. Sound like classical music? It’s Bach meets John Mayer. And hey, why not gather up the whole family and take a listen? Your grandparents will appreciate that you’re trying new music, while you tap along to the beat on the table.
And there are some songs that will surprise you. For instance, I don’t know exactly what to say about “Goldberg2″ except it has violin, percussion, guitars, flute, and a guy yelling out world chants. It’s almost a dance track, but then the next song “Duetto” is right back to classical mode. The song “BADinerie,” although dominated by the violin, could easily be a club anthem.
It’s a sound like no other, and needs to be heard to fully understand exactly why Lara St. John deserves mad props for a dynamic album.
