When it comes to Robbie Williams’ latest attempt at cracking the U.S. market, “Escapology,” he takes an honest approach. In the words of Britney Spears (or her lyricist): Baby what you see is what you get.

“Don’t wanna piss on your parade/I’m here to make money and get laid/Yeah I’m a star but I’ll fade,” he sings on “Monsoon,” where he discusses his regrets, his feelings, and his attitude. That attitude is somewhat of a rock star’s stuck in Williams’ pop body.

While his music is of the pop genre, he sings about stuff often found on a rock album. His songs include “Sexed Up,” “Get A Little High,” and “Me and My Monkey.” He drinks, he smokes, he has sex; all things you wouldn’t expect to hear on a pop album. Williams is either trying to shock his audiences or he is singing the truth.

If this was almost anyone else performing on the album, it would be a chart banger. Unfortunately, Robbie Williams is cursed. He can’t seem to get a successful album in the U.S., while conquering almost every other market in the world. This album could be the one he is looking for, unless he really is cursed.
