Although some tickets have already gone on sale, Mariah Carey has cancelled her North American tour, but will reschedule at smaller venues.

A posting on her web site Thursday read, “Mariah is planning something really special for her Charmbracelet 2003 US tour,” and they removed all U.S. tour dates. It also said that people who purchased tickets in Chicago, St. Paul, Manchester, or Toronto should hold onto them.

She will be playing in a more intimate setting, with new dates expected to be released in the coming weeks.

One reason for the switch could be slow ticket sales. Tickets went on sale in Toronto last week, but floor seats did not sell out. In comparison, floor seats to the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera concert in Toronto sold out in minutes, while American Idol floor seats were all picked up in an Internet presale.
