Ol’ Dirty Bastard was released yesterday after spending two years in jail on drug charges. Later in the day, he was at a press conference in New York City and announced that he has signed a deal with Roc-A-Fella records and would now be called “Dirt McGirt.”

“The first thing I wanted to do was give my mother a hug,” said ODB, who at one point was put on suicide watch. “It was hell out there. But so what, I feel good. I’m happy to be here. I’m happy my eyes are open still. I’m all right physically and mentally. I feel good.”

Roc-A-Fella CEO Damon Dash, Mariah Carey, ODB’s mother, wife and his Brooklyn Zoo crew were present at the press conference. Dash said he has no hesitation is signing ODB (real name:Russell Jones), despite his criminal past.

“Any opportunity I see, when I see someone who’s talented and wants to get money, I could care less what anybody says about them,” Dash said. “That’s why I chose Ol’ Dirty Bastard. He just touched the pavement. I think he’s ready to go into the store and make some hits. He’s entertained us on every level. All we want to do at the Roc is give him love and help him get where he’s got to go.”

He wants to record material soon with Carey, 50 Cent, and Jay Z. He also said he could rejoin the Wu-Tang Clan soon.
