American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson made a very impressive debut at number one on the Billboard charts this week, considering her album was pushed back nearly half a year, and the Idol buzz is wearing down. Her album, “Thankful,” sold almost 300,000 copies in the U.S.

Even more impressive is the fact that she beat 50 Cent’s CD/DVD, “New Breed,” also released last week. 50 sold about 250,000 copies of the album.

In Canada, Clarkson sold 10,500 copies, to end up in the seventh position. That will surely increase in the coming weeks with a planned promotional tour in Toronto.
