In a colourful move Tuesday, pop singer Pink announced she would be changing her name to Yellow.

“Yellow hasn’t been ‘in’ for a while,” said the artist formerly known as Pink. “People identify me as a trend setter and I’m just living up to that role.”

The move is getting positive reaction from one furry creature.

“Finally! I’ve been waiting 50 years for this!” said Big Bird, the yellow Sesame Street character. “I can’t believe I’m going to fit in with the cool folks like Bob. My whole life, people have been making fun of me because I was different.”

Another Sesame Street character, Oscar the Grouch, was quick to point out to Big Bird, “You’re still different.” Oscar told reporters that Yellow should have changed her name to Trash.

“Trash is its own colour. It’s like a strange mix of brown, yellow, green, anything really. It will never go out of style.”

Homer Simpson, 39, of Springfield, doesn’t think the story is newsworthy.

“What’s a Pink?” he told reporters at a 1 p.m. news conference. The reporters reacted with laughter. “No, really, I don’t understand what’s going on.”

Yellow’s mother refused to comment when reached by andPOP Tuesday afternoon. She did release a statement however. “She’ll always be Pink to me. I’m colour-blind and I got permanent coloured contact lenses. There’s no way I’m getting more eye surgery.”

She won’t have to. Happy April Fools to Pink’s mother.
