She’s worked with Britney Spears and Eminem; just not musically. Taryn Manning, the actress and now singer, along with her brother Kellin, form the duo Boomkat.

Hailing from Falls Church, Virginia, they first formed their rock-hip hop band after high school. However, that was just when Taryn’s acting career took off. She’s had parts in the movies Crossroads, crazy/beautiful, 8 Mile and White Oleander. When David E. Kelly, creator of Boston Public, heard their demo, he created a whole episode around Taryn and included two of their tracks on the show. She was also in a Gap ad with Marianne Faithfull and Tweet.

With all that credibility, Boomkat signed a major label deal with American Idol producer Randy Jackson, but things fell through. Fortunately for the family, Robbie Robertson of the Band signed them to DreamWorks and they will release boomkatalog one on April 8.

Taryn and Kellin of Boomkat spoke with andPOP on a recent trip to Toronto as part of Canadian Music Week. Check out the interview to hear them talk about singing, acting, how Eminem tried to steal them away from DreamWorks, what Britney is really like, how Taryn was kicked off Popstars, and much more. Plus, stay tuned until the end when you can watch outtakes of Boomkat trying to cut a promo for andPOP.
