Welcome Back Napster – Roxio To Relaunch Service
Napster is making its return!
Roxio Inc. has announced that it will be relaunching the Napster service before the end of this year. However, this time it will be legal.
“We’re expecting to launch the service before the end of the year,” spokeswoman Kathryn Kelly told Reuters. “But we’re not relaunching until we can establish it as a legal service.”
Roxio is currently in talks with major record labels to license their music for the Napster network. When the service is relaunched it won’t be free. Users will have to pay either a subscription fee or a fee for each individual song.
Finally, Shawn Fanning, original creator of the Napster service, has been hired as a consultant.
