Wainwright ‘Poses’ Unique Genre of Music
Rufus Wainwright is not your typical singer. That is because he?s not really a pop singer, and not really a rock singer. In fact, he was nominated this year for a Juno in the best alternative album category, as well as the best songwriter category. Unique could describe Wainwright?s music, as it is simply in a genre of its own.
The release of his second album, ?Poses,? signified a reawakening in Rufus Wainwright?s musical career. The son of musical legend Loudon Wainwright, it took three years in between its album release and the release of his critically acclaimed self titled debut. In the middle, he contributed tracks for several soundtracks including I Am Sam, Big Daddy and Zoolander.
Rufus is currently touring across North America. Before playing a show in Toronto, Rufus took some time to talk with andPOP about writing lyrics while being drunk, staying grounded, playing live shows, and more.
