EMI bought out Mariah Carey’s contract for $28 million dollars, reports indicated. However, her camp is now saying it was more that that amount and are steaming.

“As stated in the joint press release of Mariah Carey and EMI/Virgin Records, the agreement between the two was amicably terminated with benefits to and for Mariah Carey of $49 million for the one album she delivered,” says publicist Cindi Berger in a press release. “The release of EMI, independently issued by it, is in direct violation of the agreement between the parties. It is also false. It states that EMI itself terminated the agreement. Not true. It fails to state that the total package for Mariah Carey is $49 million.”

None the less, Mariah is label-less, and the next time an album could be released by the sometimes-brown sometimes-blonde diva is at least a year away.
