Shakira Banned by Argentinian Record Chain
“Whenever, Whatever?” Not exactly. Shakira will not be selling copies of her English-debut “Laundry Service,” or any other album by the Columbian temptresses at Tower Records in Argentina.
In her latest album, “Underneath Your Clothes,” Antonio de la Rua, her boyfriend, makes an appearance. He is the son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua, who resigned last year because of profound economic and political turmoil in the country. With the appearance of Antonio de la Rua in her music video, local media has caused a stir, Billboard reports.
“It’s surprising to us that Tower Records Argentina — which is a licensee — would wage a negative campaign against such a respected artist,” Luana Pagani, Sony senior VP of marketing for Latin America, told Billboard.
Her album has sold 75,000 copies in Argentina.
