The “Popstars” series will return to Global for another season next year, but this time, it will be a little different. Gone is the 5-piece group. Incoming is a solo singer.

“Popstars: Solo,” will be the next installment of Popstars, Loren Mawhinney Vice-President of Canadian
Production for Global, said at a press conference Wednesday to introduce Velvet Empire.

Michael Geddes, President of Lone Eagle Entertainment, and the man behind bringing the Popstars series to Canada, confirmed that the series was in the works, and an official announcement about the specifics will be announced at a later date.

It comes as no surprise that Popstars would want to head in that direction, seeing as the number of multi-person groups are diminishing. Dominating the charts are solo stars like Michelle Branch, Alanis Morisette, and Britney Spears.

The current season of Popstars will air until May 28.
