‘Pop Idol’ Singer Breaks UK Record
Will Young, the performer who won the British television show “Pop Idol,” took the number one position on the British singles charts. His first release, “Evergreen/Anything is Possible,” became the fastest selling-debut in UK History, Reuters reports.
“My hands are shaking,” he said on a British radio station as he read out the sales figured. “I’m elated.”
The single, released last Monday, sold over 1.1 million copies. The series “Pop Idol” is similar to “Popstars,” but its goal is to find one solo star. The series is rumored to be coming to the U.S.
Young is scheduled to take part in a Buckingham Palace concert in June to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s golden jubilee, with the likes of Elton John, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney, reports Reuters.
