Rock group Nickelback and jazz singer Diana Krall each won three trophies at the 2002 Juno Awards handed out this weekend in St. John?s, Newfoundland. Being dubbed as the ?greatest Juno?s ever? by many attendees, ?The Rock? was fortunate to be host to such a star-studded event.

Nickelback was named Best Group and ?How Your Remind Me? was named Best Single at the award show Sunday night. Most awards were handed out at a non-televised ceremony Saturday, in which the group?s album Silver Side Up was named Best Rock Album, a ceremony that they almost missed because of a delayed flight.

Krall won Best Artist and Best Album (The Look of Love) Sunday, in addition to Best Vocal Jazz Album the night before.

To no surprise, international super-love Shaggy received the award for Best Selling Album for Hotshot.

Not only were the over 1000 fans treated to a concert-like event, but they got to laugh too. Hosts The Barenaked Ladies brilliantly came up with original songs as each commercial break approached. They opened the show by listing off all the years in which they won Junos, then sang a song about how this year they were not nominated. Jan Arden and Bif Naked even got in on the fun, with Arden telling the skinny Naked that she would help her get to Jenny Craig one day, to which Naked replied, ?Any excuse to miss a meal.?

Nelly Furtado, last year?s big winner, nominated in two categories, lost both to Krall. Furtado performed ?Shit on the Radio? along with Swollen Members. Nickelback, Krall, Shaggy, and the Barenaked Ladies also performed, as did Sum 41, Alanis Morisette, Great Big Sea, Amanda Marshall, and Daniel Lanois.

Glenn Lewis won for Best R&B/Soul Recording (Don?t You Forget It) and iterated that he is just the tip of the iceberg in the Canadian soul scene. ?There’s more to come. I’m just one of the bricks in the foundation of this music wanting to see the progression of this music.?

Our Lady Peace also went home empty handed, having been nominated for five awards.
