Reports earlier today suggested Britney Spears and longtime boyfriend Justin Timberlake broke up nearly a week ago. Spears told MTV Europe today: “No, that’s not true. Me and Justin did not split up.”

The report was instigated by the London Sun. “Pals say the ‘N Sync singer is frustrated because he never gets to see Britney because of their hectic schedules,” the paper writes. It goes on to say that Spears told friend and actress Tara Reid about the split over a drink last week in Hollywood.

“Friends of Justin say the relationship has become strained ? and constant gossip about their love life proved too much,” the paper continued.

The paper quotes an anonymous source, a common practice when breaking a story as big as this would appear. It is also a common practice when the story is inaccurate.
