Pop singer Jessica Simpson and 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey are engaged to be married, E! is reporting. The entertainment news company said they received confirmation Friday by a publicist for Simpson’s label, Columbia Records.

They met in 1999 while touring together and immediately became a couple. Last year, news surfaced that the couple broke up but would remain friends. However, that could have been just a ploy to get the media attention off of them so their careers could be the main focus.
