EMI Buys Out Carey’s Contract
EMI announced Wednesday that they have paid Mariah Carey $28 million US to buy out her contract, just four months after the release of her first album with the company.
Less than 1 year ago, Virgin Records, part of EMI, signed Carey to a multi-album deal worth somewhere between $80 million and $118 million USD.
Mariah had already received $21 million US from the company upon signing the deal last spring.
In a statement released by Carey she said, “This is the right decision for me. I look forward to the many new and exciting opportunities which have now been presented to me.”
