Chan Raises Money in Toronto Benefit; Given Key to City
Jackie Chan entertained 15,000 people in Toronto yesterday, hosting and organizing ?Knight of the Dragon.? The event, held at SkyDome, raised money for the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation and the Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care.
“I didn’t practice. I don’t know what I’m doing,” said Chan, who was presented with a key to the city by Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman.
He did just about everything to entertain the crowd, acting as singer, dancer, interviewee, fashion designer, auctioneer, and co-host along with Dominic Patten and Anne-Marie Mediwake of CTV?s 21c. Video clips were shown throughout the night of Chan?s career film industry, as well as a montage of all the injuries he suffered in his 40-year career.
To the delight of the audience, which included his father who flew in from Australia, Chan sang a few songs in Chinese. He admitted that he prefers martial arts to singing, but Chan held up very well. In fact, he said he would be releasing an album sometime next year.
Chan showed off his children and adult lines of clothes that he designed himself. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Wayne Gretzky took part in the fashion show, with all the clothes being auctioned off. Hewitt is currently shooting ?Tuxedo? with Chan in Toronto. Also up for auction were autographed books, action figures, original art, and other Chan memorabilia.
Chan showed that he is more than an actor, and made the best of his stay in Toronto, raising thousands of dollars for worthy charities.
