There was no clear-cut winner at the 2002 American Music Awards Wednesday, as four artists tied for the lead with two wins apiece.

Alicia Keys, nominated for a leading five awards, was named favorite new pop artist and favorite new soul artist.

The late singer Aaliyah, who died last year in a plane crash, was named favorite female soul artist and was the recipient of the best soul album award.

Destiny’s Child, who wore matching brown outfits, won for best pop album and favourite soul group. Earlier this week, the group was listed one of Mr. Blackwell’s worst dressed of the year in his annual outcry of insults.

Tim McGraw won for favorite country album and favourite male country artist, while his wife, Faith Hill was named favorite female country artist.

Michael Jackson accepted the award for Artist of the Century, but a previously announced taped performance was not shown. His sister Janet accepted favorite female pop/rock artist via satellite from Tokyo, where she is on tour.
