Top 5 Music Stories of the Year
1. Eminem
He had a number one movie and number one albums. What more can be asked for from a guy who doesn?t even do many interviews? This was his year. Now he?s back with his ex-wife Kim, the subject of one of his violent murderous songs, and life is looking up for the rapper who had some troubles with the law last year.
2. Christina?s New Look
Christina Aguilera looks like a prostitute. There- I said it. Genies are mysterious. There?s no mystery to this girl anymore. She threw her genie image out the window, and didn?t bother putting anything else on. Her album isn?t doing too badly, but how can anyone concentrate on numbers when she?s appearing near-nude on countless magazine covers? She makes Jennifer Lopez look conservative. Well, maybe we won?t go that far.
3. Michael Jackson?s Crazy
He called Tommy Mottola ?the devil,? went parading through the streets protesting Sony, and almost dropped his baby off a balcony. And Michael Jackson wants us to believe is normal?
While Mottola could very well be the devil, hearing Jackson?s accusations doesn?t give the claims any merit.
Jackson said he got ?caught up in the moment? so he held his baby out of a window. What moment? Maybe Mottola went into Jackson?s body, thus possessing him of the devil, and then proceeded to try to ruin Jackson?s life by almost killing his child. At the last moment, Jackson then got enough strength to rid himself of Devil Mottola and quickly put his child back into his hotel room. That is the only ?moment? that could make sense.
4. Lavigne Arrives
Avril Lavigne, the pride of Napanea, Ontario, was introduced to the music scene in March, and rapidly conquered the charts, both in Canada and the U.S. Some call her the anti-Britney, with her brown hair, tie, and skater image, but her music speaks for itself. All the hype is real. Her debut album, ?Let Go,? is already four times platinum stateside and it has no signs of slowing down, still in fourth place on both the U.S. and Canada album sales charts.
5. Justin vs Nick
Although they didn?t portray it is a rivalry, perhaps because they?re both on the same record label, the 2 boyband icons-gone-solo, ?N Sync?s Justin Timberlake and the Backstreet Boys? Nick Carter both released their debut albums this year and they both have very different results to show from it.
Timberlake?s ?Justified? has been out for seven weeks, and in that time, went 2-times platinum. His singles, ?Like I Love You? and ?Cry Me A River? are getting tons of spins on radio. Hey may even get some Grammy nominations.
The story for the Backstreeter is completely the opposite. Carter?s ?Now or Never? has had almost no chart presence and his singles and videos are getting next-to-no airplay. Insiders are calling the album a bust, and the only way to save it will be some strategic marketing plans in the new year. The next time we hear from Carter might be when the Boys release a new album, due out sometime in 2003.
