Ja Rule and Ashanti to Remake Sparkle
The Murder Inc. crew is set to begin production on a remake of the 1976 musical, “Sparkle.”
Ja Rule will star as Stix, originally played by Phillip Michael Thomas from “Miami Vice.” Ashanti will play Sparkle, one of three sisters in an R&B group. Rule told MTV that they’re hoping to cast Beyonce Knowles and P. Diddy.
“Right now we’re just going to finish up casting,” Rule said, estimating when ‘Sparkle’ would spark up production. “They’re going to talk budgeting and stuff like that and then it’ll be a go. I say we probably won’t be up in production until about next year.”
Irv Gotti will direct, and one of the original writers, Joel Schumacher, will produce.
