Universal Music To Sell Music Online in MP3 Format
Universal Music announced Wednesday that they will be selling more than 43 000 songs online through retail outlets and various music web sites. The songs, available for download in MP3 format, will be available from such sites as MP3.com, Best Buy, Rolling Stone, Circuit City, Tower Records and others.
Single songs will sell for $0.99USD, while full albums will be available for $9.99USD. The songs will be burnable to CD or transferable to MP3 players.
“This is a direct blow to the peer-to-peer services by providing consumers with a cheap and easy way to get a trusted file,” said P.J. McNealy, analyst with GartnerG2.
To start off this new service, Universal will be offering the new Mariah Carey single online before it hits stores.
