A plot by 5 people to kidnap Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girl, was ruined by police Saturday. They were arrested after the News of the World tabloid tipped off authorities.

“A team of undercover News of the World reporters infiltrated a gang of Europeans who were conspiring to kidnap Victoria Beckham,” Hayley Barlow, a newspaper spokeswoman, told the Associated Press. “We’ve been working on this investigation for several months and working with the police led to the arrests today.”

The five, being detained, were not charged with any crime, but they were suspected of theft and conspiracy to kidnap.

Beckham is married to soccer star David Beckham, and just gave birth in September to their second child.
