Plans Unveiled for Canadian Idol
If you didn’t make the cut for the upcoming “Popstars – The One,” don’t give up on your musical career just yet. You have one more chance. CTV announced today it has bought the rights for “Canadian Idol,” a deal that was completed in Cannes, France last week.
The show, in association with FremantleMedia and 19TV, will be based on the “Idol” format. “Pop Idol” debuted in the UK last year, with Will Young, the winner, setting a world record for the fastest selling debut single of all time. Runners up Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh have also reached number one on the charts.
Kelly Clarkson was the winner of “American Idol,” the hit show in the US this summer. Justin Guarini and Tamyra Gray have also gone on to sign record deals since the show ended in September.
South Africa and Poland have also had their own version of “Idol.”
Details of hosts, judges, a nation-wide search, and more will be announced soon. The only thing certain is it won’t be aired until “American Idol 2″ is completed. The series will begin airing next year.
“Popstars – The One” will debut on Global on February 2.
