George Harrison Tribute Concert Planned
A George Harrison tribute concert has been announced. Eric Clapton and Harrison’s widow, Olivia, planned the show, which will take place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday, November 29, 2002, the one-year anniversary of Harrison’s passing.
“The tribute for George will resound not only within the Albert Hall but hopefully reach the spirit of the man so loved by his friends who will be performing and attending,” Olivia said in a press release.
Performers will sing songs by Harrison, or songs he loved. Signed up for the concert are: Joe Brown, Eric Clapton, Jools Holland, Jim Keltner, Jeff Lynne, Sir Paul McCartney, various members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Tom Petty, Leon Russell, Ravi Shankar and Ringo Starr.
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to The Material World Charitable Foundation, which has been funded by George Harrison since its establishment in 1973. The foundation supports the arts, music, education and people with special needs.
