Stars to Pay Tribute to The Hawk
Some of the biggest names in music will gather to honor Ronnie Hawkins, who recently underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer.
The 67-year-old music legend is credited with “bringing rock and roll to Canada.” He has played for the likes of Bill Clinton, every Canadian Prime Minister since John Diefenbaker, and many other world leaders.
Musicians who have signed on so far include, The Tragically Hip, Kris Kristofferson, Kevin Hearn of the Barenaked Ladies and his band “Thinbuckle”, Michael Burgess, Garth Hudson of the legendary group “the Band”, Amy Sky, Marc Jordan, Tom Cochrane, Jeff Healey, Domenic Troiano, Sab, Tom Wilson (Junkhouse), Kelly Jay Partlan Brothers and the Hawks, the 13 piece house band.
Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman will give Hawkins the key to the city and name October 4, “Ronnie Hawkins Day.” Hawkins will also be inducted to the Canadian Walk of Fame at 6:00 PM on October 4.
Tickets for the October 4 concert at Massey Hall will go on sale tomorrow at noon through Ticketmaster.
