Movie executives aren’t as dumb as you might think. Mariah Carey’s new movie, “Wiseguys,” will debut on Cinemax on October 19, meaning it won’t be shown in theaters.

After a poor box office showing for “Glitter,” Lions Gate Films, which intended on releasing it in theaters, sold the broadcast rights to HBO (the owner of Cinemax), MTV reports.

“It’s been great for me,” Carey told MTV, “just to come into it as an actor and go forth and feel and to be creative and to express another side of my creative self. It’s been the most freeing experience.”

The movie also stars Mira Sorvino.
