For those hoping to register their vote for U2 singer Bono?s Irish Presidential campaign, your hopes have been dashed.

Speculation has been lately that Bono, whose real name is Paul Hewson, has been interested in getting into politics after his recent campaigns to help African countries financially, including a 12 day trip through the continent with U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O?Neill. Bono has been very active for the cause since the early 80?s.

However, Bono was quoted as saying recently “Politicians don’t turn me on, politics doesn’t turn me on, the way music does. I have a lot more respect for them than I used to. They work a lot harder than I thought… but I don’t want to be one.”

Ireland?s President is mostly a ceremonial person, like the Governor-General is to Canada. Like in Canada, lots of people from outside politics have been considered for the position.

For now, U2 has gotten back to work on their followup to 2001?s ?All That You Can?t Leave Behind.? They also have a Best Of… album coming out later this year.
