Dee Dee Ramone, bassist for the punk rock group the Ramones, was found dead in Hollywood, California, last night. His wife found Ramone, whose real name is Douglas Glenn Colvin, unconscious in their home and was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department paramedics approximately 15 minutes later.
An autopsy is being conducted today, but it could take a few weeks before a cause of death is found. The Coroner’s Office is investigating a possible accidental drug overdose, the AP reports.
Singer Joey Ramone died of lymphoma on April 15, 2001. The band was formed in 1974, along with Johnny and Tommy Ramone. Dee Dee left the band in 1989, and went under the rap name “Dee Dee King.” He later formed the group “Chinese Dragons.” In the 1990s, he rejoined the Ramones and participated in their final tour in 1996.
