Musiq Soars, Velvet Drowning in Chart Updates
Musiq returned to the music scene after a two-year absence, earning top spot on the US album charts for his album “Juslisen.” Formerly known as Musiq Soulchild, he sold 260,200 albums, edging out Celine Dion who sold 142,700 copies of “A New Day Has Come.”
Lauryn Hill sold 122,500 of her new double-disc “Unplugged” set, finishing in third.
In Canada, Dion earned top spot for the seventh straight week. Hill debuted at number 9, while Musiq’s album will be released this week in Canada.
Velvet Empire, Canada’s second “Popstars,” did not finish in the top 10, selling fewer than 7000 albums. That is surprising, considering they have their own “making of the group” television show and have just completed a mini promotional tour in major Canadian markets.
